Classic and contemporary, Kate Maloney combines antique and
modern pieces with wonderfully unexpected details. "I am always seeking new and creative ways to solve design problems. Giving new life to found objects, such as using a wrought iron gate on a living room wall, can help to redefine a challenging space."

Known for her use of color and textures to enhance a space, creative design came naturally to Kate as her parents have a custom window treatment business and her grandmother is a seamstress. Despite her artistic nature, Kate was drawn to business school at Bentley College where she developed her financial aptitude. "I strive to work with my clients not only on artistic details, but also on devising an appropriate budget that will incorporate their expectations for the project."

Kate believes that good design is an organic process between the designer and the clients who know what they love. Her designs don’t shout for attention rather they reveal themselves bit by bit over time. When designing a home, her decisions are guided by a belief that each home should be unique to the people that live there. Many New England families choose to work with Kate not only for her youthful spin on their traditional homes but because she handily balances form with function. "It doesn’t make sense to use silk brocade on a kitchen banquette, one spill and it¹s all over! My goal is to design rooms that are just as beautiful to look at as they are comfortable to live in."
